RUSSELL MARKS
In his life-long dedication to art, Russell Marks has focused upon the relation of shape to color in tightly defined compositions: Shapes defining colors.
Following early work in graphics, he adopted acrylics and turned to painting on canvas, but discovered that he became bored with the flat surface. Fond of wood-working, having designed and made furniture, he left flat canvas to create wall-hanging wooden sculptures that more spectacularly demonstrate the sharply defined relation between shape and color.
As he continued to create wall-hanging sculptures, he began groups of large and small art-board compositions. Pleased with the results, he has continued to seek the creative flow from shape to color.
